Benjamin N. Simon
Chairman of the Board of Directors
Mr. Simon has almost 40 years of experience in institutional investing and
money management and is the former Chairman & Chief Investment Officer of
Palomar Capital Management, Inc., a $300+ million hedge fund. Palomar Capital
Management was one of the first customers of Montgomery Securities Prime
Brokerage (now Banc of America Securities Prime Brokerage). Previously Mr.
Simon was a partner at Montgomery Securities, Cantor Fitzgerald and Pilgrim
Baxter & Associates and worked in institutional sales with Lehman Brothers.
Mr. Simon received his BS in Economics and MS in Finance from the University
of Illinois.
Douglas Carlisle
Director
Mr. Carlisle joined Menlo Ventures in 1982. Prior to Menlo Ventures, he
worked as a design engineer at ROLM Corporation. At Menlo, he focuses primarily
on early-stage communications and software companies. His recent investments
and board seats include: Appshop, Expand Beyond, FutureTrade Technologies,
GoDigital Networks, IronPort Systems, Lantern Communications, LuxN, nLight
Photonics, Open Solutions and printCafe. His prior investments and board
seats include: Carrier Access Corporation (CACS); Cyras Systems, acquired
by CIENA Corp. (CIEN); Efficient Networks (EFNT); Hotmail, acquired by Microsoft
(MSFT); Kalpana, acquired by Cisco (CSCO); and Pyxis.
Mr. Carlisle is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (B.S.
in Electrical Engineering), Stanford University Graduate School of Business
(M.B.A.) and Stanford University Law School (J.D.).
Robert L. Kahan Director
For 16 years prior to his retirement in 1998, Mr. Kahan was Senior Managing
Director and Head of Trading at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities (now Banc
of America Securities) and a member of the company's Executive Committee.
Prior to joining Montgomery, Mr. Kahan was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs
& Co. for nine years covering institutional accounts where he became the
largest producer in the New York office. He also worked as an Assistant
Vice President at Bankers Trust Co. in New York, where he assisted in the
management of pension portfolios.
Kahan earned his B.A. in Economics at Columbia College, and attended New
York University Graduate School of Business. He was an Executive Committee
Member of the National Organization of Investment Professionals, a member
of the NYSE Stock Allocation Committee, and a former Governor of the Chicago
Stock Exchange.
David Nazarian
Director
Mr. Nazarian is the founding member of Smart Technology Ventures, having
successfully completed two family venture funds before founding Smart Technology
Ventures III. He is a successful entrepreneur who has founded and built
many technology companies and has nearly 20 years of operational and investment
experience in the telecommunications and aerospace industries.
Mr. Nazarian was a major investor in Omninet, a company that provided two-way
messaging services via satellite for mobile users, when it merged with Qualcomm
in 1988. The Nazarian family remains a large shareholder in Qualcomm (Nasdaq:
QCOM). Mr. Nazarian serves as Chairman of the Board of Optinetrics, and
on the boards of directors for Lucix, Nomadix, Cradle Technologies, and
Allard Industries. He also is a member of the Board of Governors for Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center. He received his MBA from the University of Southern California.
Robert North Director
Mr. North was President and Chief Executive Officer and a director of HNC
Software from 1987 to 1999. Mr. North is a director of Peerless Systems
Corporation, a publicly-held software-based imbedded imaging systems company
and previously was a director of Abacus Direct Corporation, a publicly-held
company that provides information and research to the direct marketing industry
that was acquired by Doubleclick in 1999. For 21 years prior to joining
HNC Softrware, Mr. North was employed by TRW, Inc., most recently as Vice
President and General Manager of the Electronics Systems Group. Prior to
that time, he was a member of the technical staff for the Satellite Central
Office of Aerospace Corporation. Mr. North holds Bachelor of Science and
Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
He has also completed executive management programs at the University of
California at Los Angeles and Stanford University.
Greg Reyes Director
Mr. Reyes has been a private investor and management consultant since 1994.
From September 1990 to August 1994, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of Sunward Technologies, Inc., a provider of rigid disk magnetic
recording head products for the data storage industry. From March 1986 to
August 1990, Mr. Reyes was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American
Semiconductor Equipment Technologies. Mr. Reyes also serves as a director
of C-Cube Microsystems, Inc. [NASDAQ: CUBE] and Arc International, a UK
based IP core semiconductor company and previously served as a director
of Sync Research (NASDAQ: SYNX; Chairman from January 1995 through August
2000) and Diamond Multimedia (NASDAQ: DIMD). Mr. Reyes also serves on the
board of several privately-held technology companies including ShopEaze.com
(e-commerce retail), Go Digital Networks (XDSL equipment), Nuera Communications
(VOIP solutions) and Amphion (IP core DSP company based in Belfast). Mr.
Reyes received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute and MS in Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology.
Philip C. Stapleton
Director
Mr. Stapleton is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Conifer
Securities, San Francisco, CA. Mr. Stapleton has been active in the financial
services business for over 35 years, and has amassed a wealth of industry
knowledge and management skills. In 1975, he joined the American Stock Exchange
as senior inspection representative where he audited member firms from both
a financial and supervisory point of view setting new standards for inspection
and the training of inspectors. He joined Morgan Stanley in 1977, where
he coordinated day-to-day operations in Capital Markets Administration.
He then relocated to Chicago as administrative manager where he was responsible
for the day-to-day management of the IIS group, servicing high net worth
individuals and small institutions in the mid-west area. In 1983, Mr. Stapleton
joined Montgomery Securities in San Francisco as Director of Administration
where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations, development, and
implementation of strategic business plans as well as developing and implementing
MIS function resulting in superior management systems. In 1989, Mr. Stapleton
became a founding partner of Conifer Securities, LLC (formerly Genesis Merchant
Group Securities). As President and Chief Operating Officer, he grew the
firm from 7 employees to a national institutional investment banking firm.
In 1999, Mr. Stapleton, as President and Chief Executive Officer, teamed
with a core group of employees and investors to re-focus Conifer to provide
quality execution, brokerage processing, full back office support, and exceptional
corporate services to a select group of investment managers and private
clients. Mr. Stapleton's education includes undergraduate and graduate work
at Pace University.
Murray Finebaum
Director
Mr. Finebaum was founder Chairman & CEO of Trading Edge which was acquired
by Market Axess in March, 2001 for which he served as Vice Chairman. He
has extensive securities and electronic trading system experience. He started
his career as a Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission and then joined the Membership Compliance Division of the American
Stock Exchange. He then joined Cantor, Fitzgerald & Co., Inc. as General
Counsel and ultimately became Executive Vice President, Director and a shareholder.
Mr. Finebaum was President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Instinet.
After leaving Instinet he served as its consultant and as Reuter's negotiator
for GLOBEX®, a worldwide trading system for futures operated
by Reuters for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Chicago Board of Trade and
Marche á Terme International de France. Mr. Finebaum then became
Reuters COO of GLOBEX®. He served as Vice Chairman of the
NASD, Chairman of its National Business Conduct and Capital and Margin Committees
and a member its Executive and numerous other committees. He has written
and spoken extensively and consulted for, among others, NASDAQ, E*Trade
and other Fortune 500 companies.
